H1N1 Update

So now there are 14 people infected with H1N1. Since Singapore is so dense (as in populated, not stupid), the chances of us transmitting the virus to each other is higher. But I don't think its happening .... yet.

Holidays

I won't be posting as much since I will be somewhat banned during the holidays. Also for the H1N1 update there are 4 people ( I think, I haven't watched the news for some time already) infected with H1N1. For more info look at the post below.

OMG!!!

Singapore has its first case of H1N1 'flu (Influenza A)! Pandemonium! Horror! Still, the Minister's already said that the alert level will not be raised even if there was a confirmed case. Too bad. Once it reaches red school will be suspended. Anyway, school holiday's just around the corner and so there's a lower chance of us spreading the 'flu to each other then...

Here's the lowdown on the H1N1 'flu (Influenza A)...

Influenza A virus subtype H1N1, also known as A(H1N1), is a subtype of influenzavirus A and the most common cause of influenza (flu) in humans. Some strains of H1N1 are endemic in humans, including the strain(s) responsible for the 1918 flu pandemic which killed 50–100 million people worldwide. Less virulent H1N1 strains still exist in the wild today, worldwide, causing a small fraction of all influenza-like illness and a large fraction of all seasonal influenza. H1N1 strains caused roughly half of all flu infections in 2006.Other strains of H1N1 are endemic in pigs and in birds.

In March, April and May 2009, thousands of laboratory-confirmed infections and a number of deaths were caused by an outbreak of a new strain of H1N1.

Spanish 'flu

The Spanish flu, also known as La Gripe EspaƱola, or La Pesadilla, was an unusually severe and deadly strain of avian influenza, a viral infectious disease, that killed some 50 million to 100 million people worldwide over about a year in 1918 and 1919. It is thought to be one of the most deadly pandemics in human history. It was caused by the H1N1 type of influenza virus.[5]

The Spanish flu caused an unusual number of deaths because it may have caused a cytokine storm in the body. (The recent epidemic of bird flu, also an Influenza A virus, had a similar effect.) The Spanish flu virus infected lung cells, leading to overstimulation of the immune system via release of cytokines into the lung tissue. This leads to extensive leukocyte migration towards the lungs, causing destruction of lung tissue and secretion of liquid into the organ. This makes it difficult for the patient to breathe. In contrast to other pandemics, which mostly kill the old and the very young, the 1918 pandemic killed unusual numbers of young adults, which may have been due to their healthy immune systems being able to mount a very strong and damaging response to the infection.

The term "Spanish" flu was coined because Spain was at the time the only European country where the press were printing reports of the outbreak, which had killed thousands in the armies fighting the First World War. Other countries suppressed the news in order to protect morale.

2009 H1N1 Outbreak

Minor outbreaks of swine influenza occurred in humans in 1976 and 1988, and in pigs in 1998 and 2007.

In the 2009 swine flu outbreak, the virus isolated from patients in the United States was found to be made up of genetic elements from four different flu viruses – North American Mexican influenza, North American avian influenza, human influenza, and swine influenza virus typically found in Asia and Europe – "an unusually mongrelised mix of genetic sequences."

and it goes on...... but that's all I'll go. If you want to read more check out Wikipedia-http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H1N1

Best Visitor computer artist award

and it goes to ................................................Wayne!!!!

He makes the avatars for us homies ( not homos) like YJ and Howard... So here's mine...

The Gendrome was made as my birthday present last year. Some of you might recognise it from Monster Hunter. I hope Wayne could send me the other homies' piccies. Then I could feature them here.

Must... resist urge... to be emo...

Revamped my mypod (surprise, surprise) and added two songs from simple plan namely welcome to my life and worst day ever ( to me, that's everyday till i grow taller). And welcome to my life, being kicked when you're down, is a very good description of sean kicking me in the kidneys afetr i have fallen due to fatigue after being chased by him around the whole level ( exactly what happened this morning). So to make up for that, I have to start incessantly quoting yu-gi-oh abridged( don't ask me how they're connected, I too have no idea).
So like every friday, getting ready to go taekwondo.

Epic 4- part update

Since I haven't updated in a long time(5 days), I feel the urge to start spamming my blog with what happened/what is happening/what is going to happen today. It approximately 1 hour before my taekwondo and I'm in my gi. Got my yellow tip last week. Also learnt yellow tip pattern. So read the rest of the stuff.

Saturday=Busy

Firstly, in the morning, I have to go Hwa Chong Open House. Then go tution at Just Education. Wayne shared this with me last lesson( before Vesak Day Holiday):
1. You cannot touch all your teeth with your tongue.
2. After reading 1. Some people will try it.
3. After reading 2. Some people will laugh.
4. After reading 3. Some people will send this on.
And lastly, going to my cuz's wedding dinner at night. For all that, I'm getting my PSP back(probably).

SSE Visit

Sean, Stephen and Ethan are going to come over on Sunday to do that P.E. project work. I still don't understand why we have to do project work for P.E. Still, Stephen is gonna bring over his Flight simulator X(Roman numeral for 10, not X).

Obligatory Generic Post

SA is over! Since the obligatory reaction to (happy/sad/interesting/every) thing(s) is to blog about it, this is going straight into my blog. Refer to my MSN personal message to see what I have to say.

Labour Day made me skip my taekwondo but i know i already passed since the results were announced last week. getting the tip next lesson. Also, have you guys watched tricky TV? Its really nice. Lucky I have a DVD recorder 'cos i would miss that for taekwondo if i did not have one. Tricky TV is awesome. 2 episodes and 2 tricks learnt. The 1st one is hard to perform though. You need a jacket and some rubber bands. Got to go now. Halfway through my composition only. :(

Stuff that I need to say/blog

Found this crap in my lead email after keying SC exam paper answers

i knew a girl that was so stupid that........
she called me to get my phone number.
she spent 20 minutes looking at the orangejuice box because it said
'concentrate.'
she put lipstick on her forehead becauseshe wanted to make up her
mind.
she tried to put M&M's in alphabeticalorder.
she sent me a fax with a stamp on it.
she tried to drown a fish..
she thought a quarterback was a refund.
she got locked in a grocery store andstarved to death.
she tripped over a cordless phone.
she took a ruler to bed to see how longshe slept.
she asked for a price check at the dollarstore.
she studied for a blood test.
she thought Meow Mix was a CD for cats.
when she heard that 90% of all crimesoccur around the home,
she moved
when she missed the 44 bus, she took the22 bus twice instead.
when she took you to the airport and saw asign that said
'Airport Left' she turned
around and went home
